My passion for dachshunds began many, many years ago when I was in 4th grade.  My family bought a little chocolate and tan smooth pup from a backyard breeder and I was instantly in love with Heidi.  When she was about 2, my piano teacher suggested I take her to obedience class and I did.  Heidi eventually became Heidi von Zumwalt, U.D. and was only the 25th dachshund to attain that advanced AKC obedience title.  Along the way, my mom and I got interested in conformation and we fell in love with mini wires.  We bought a little girl from a well known breeder in California but she did not turn out well enough to get her championship so we bred her twice to two different champions in our area.  Alas, no really good pup but I met the handler of the second dog we used.  Bobby Fowler is a legend in our breed, having handled a gorgeous standard wire to a Hound Group 1st at the Westminster KC many years after I met him and worked for him during my summer vacations while in college.  He traded me two of Georgette's little wire pups for a standard wire who became my first champion.  His name was Spanky and thus my kennel name was borm from the famous Our Gang comedies.

From my work with Bobby, I met many of the most foremost breeders of dachshunds in the country, one of whom, Dee Hutchinson of Rose Farm Kennels fame, became a most profound influence on me.  She hired me away from Bobby and I worked for her for several summers as well.  She was influential in the acquisition of my second champion wire, CH Briarpatch of Rose Farm W.  I bred her and got my first homebred champion, Ch Our Gang's Mighty Minuteman W.  I was in college studying to become a teacher and then graduated and took time to get my career started and get married.  Dog shows etc. took a back seat for a while.  My husband and I got a Lab, then Dobie, and then a Golden when our son was about 7.  Then the magnet to get back into dachshunds grew stronger.  I contacted Dee and got my first mini longhair, my beloved Dazzle. And so it all began!  CH Rose Farm's All A Glitter ML is the great-great grandmother of my newest mamal, GCHS Our Gang's Something in the Way She Moves ML, AKA Salsa.  Along the way and many years ago,  I also got a beautiful mini-wire from Dee and she became the first dog I ever finished completely on my own in two major venues, DC Rose Farm's Spicy Gingersnap MW CGC RN BN.  DC Sadie, is our youngest wire.  GCHS Luna, GCHB Amelia, and pups,                                          Jumper, Paris, and Sashay (Salsa's kids) round out the family.

Bobby Fowler and my first AKC champion, CH None Such Lonesome Stranger SW, C.D.
